Lisduff Sale Report

A strong demand for dairy breeding stock was evident last Saturday at the annual sale from the Lisduff herd of pedigree Holstein-friesians owned by John O’Sullivan & Sons at Whitechurch, Co. Cork.

A very large crowd saw the two top prices of the day paid for two of the four bulls sold. The 13-month old Lisduff Levity an Oman son with an EBI of 170 and out of the Mascol sired Lisduff Lenora 11 that gave 9652 kgs @ 3.46% protein in her first lactation topped the sale at 4,500. He was immediately followed for 4,400 by a second Oman son Lisduff Omentum EBI 143 this time from one of the herds top cows Lisduff Ellen 36 by Lord Lily, classified EX92 and with yields up to 12305 kgs @ 3.24% protein .

A very consistent trade for heifers saw the top price of 3,000 being paid for the Oman daughter Lisduff Mary 43 from the Duplex sired dam Mary 33 VG that had yields to 9435 kgs @3.7% protein. She was closely followed at 2,900 by the Ramos sired Dairybreiz 65 bred from the French-American cow family that produced the renowned AI Sire Hairybreiz. An Oman from the Leslie Family and a Ramos from the French originating Neottie family both sold for 2,750. The entire group of heifers averaged 2,250.

Heifer calves from the sale heifers sold to 1, 150 and averaged 920.

The animals were sold to buyers in Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, Clare, Galway, Monaghan, Meath, Westmeath, Wexford and Waterford.

The sale was conducted by C. Johnson & Co.
